Immunizations:

Strongly recommended: Yellow Fever Vaccination

  • At least 10 days before your trip.

  • One dose of the vaccine lasts for a lifetime.

  • Use bug spray with at least 10% DEET

  • Cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants. (When visiting rural or jungle areas)

São Paulo is the largest city in South America, even larger than New York City. Be aware of yourself and your surroundings. Travel with at least one or two other people, and always be prepared with your emergency contact numbers in preparation for a worst-case scenario.

Protect your Passport: Make a copy or use your driver’s license and keep your passport at your accommodations.

Be aware of pickpockets: Do not store your wallet/smartphone in back pockets of your pants or bags. Also, do not leave your belongings unattended in public spaces.

Leave irreplaceable items at your accommodations, or better yet at home: If you have expensive jewelry or items you consider irreplaceable, leave them in the United States.

Alcohol... stay alert and stay safe:  Do not abuse drinking. It will only make it easier to get in trouble as you increase your chances of getting lost, forgetting your belongings or being robbed.
